Alisson Glass
2 sous-catégories
Alison Glass is a surface and space designer living in Virginia with her husband, daughter, and son. Aspiring to create a career for herself, Alison started a design business in 2007 focusing on space remodels and custom home decor pieces. Her love of color and shape and the combination of the two eventually lead to making the decision to step back from the local design business and work toward her goal of creating artwork for surfaces. She is thrilled for the opportunity to design fabric for Andover.
Alison is inspired by the multitude of details in the world, both natural and those made by artisans, particularly in urban architecture. She is passionate about the ideas of making choices that are consistent with who a person is, being increasingly comfortable with ambiguity, and continuing to move forward and live in the new. She loves to talk about these ideas, as well as art, design, architecture, color, kids, okay, pretty much anything, with anyone who cares to talk! She is incredibly grateful to her husband and kids, for who they are, and for their enthusiasm and support of her work, as well as the amazing varied and interesting friends she is meeting along the way who are a constant source of inspiration and new possibilities. -

Kathy Doughty
1 sous-catégorie
Kathy Doughty says she often looks back on her youth and thinks of the simplicity of green grass yards in Ohio. Cowboys and Indians, hide-and-seek, cards, and coloring filled her days. She liked nothing more than climbing a tree, taking aimless walks in the woods, or going for long bike rides. Sewing was not on her list of favorite activities! She moved several times - from Ohio to New York and back again - before heading off to college in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, where she was surrounded by more wilderness. Upon graduating she left the wild for a different kind of wild - the East Village of New York City during the punk rock era. She worked in advertising, fashion, and marketing for ten years. While living in the city she was often grateful for the foundation of green grass of her youth, she says. Then, she married and moved with her husband to Australia in 1990, where she was able to give her sons the foundation of green grass and a simple, practical life. Her three nearly adult sons are fully Aussie, having grown up playing cricket and rugby. In 1993 she made her first quilt and instantly fell in love with the "American"-style quilt. It connected her to her childhood and her home so far away and simple pleasures. She spent years making squares until she discovered triangles. Then she found an array of lively shapes and skills that took her into more complex quilting patterns. She enjoys that there is a lot to learn in quilting, and she says she will always want to fine-tune and add skills to the basics that she still loves. She connects with the idea of traditional quilts made modern by the influences of today. She says the many artists with whom she has worked over the years have opened her eyes to the principles of design, color, shape, and line; they include Sue Cody, Marg George, Brigitte Giblin, Wendy Williams, Rosalie Dace, and so many others. Now she wishes to share the added depth she has found as she has grown in her love. In 2003 she opened Material Obsession and found the companionship needed to make life complete, people who share this patchwork passion with her! The shop is a place where quilters are encouraged to experiment with textiles, design, and method. It is a creative environment that is all about the discovery of adding layers one at a time. She hopes to extend that environment via this book.

Michelle Yeo
1 sous-catégorie
Michelle Yeo was born in the leafy eastern suburbs of Melbourne, where she still lives with her husband and 4 children. From a young age Michelle was interested in sewing and other crafts, but it wasn’t until 1984 that she made her first quilt after her then fiancé, now husband, told here that he hated doonas and wanted sheets, blankets, and a patchwork quilt. He never realized what a monster that comment would create. Michelle has been running her own business, Michelle Yeo Quilt Designs, over the past 15 years while still working part time as an Occupational Therapist. Her work is very traditional and she specializes in reproduction quilts inspired by quilts of the past. She is especially passionate about circular designs and stars using freezer paper foundation piecing techniques as well as more traditional techniques including broderie perse. As well as her pattern designs Michelle has a range of acrylic templates for ease and accuracy of cutting and piecing which accompany some of her designs. Many of her quilt patterns have been printed in Australian and international quilt magazines, and in 2014 her book ‘Of Needle, Thimble & Thread’ was published by Quiltmania. Later that year some of her quilts were exhibited in a special exhibit, “Best of Australian Quilting,” at the International Quilt Festival in Houston. Michelle teaches her quilts throughout Australia and has taught in both France and the USA. She is a passionate quilt designer and teacher and is extremely excited to have the opportunity to design fabrics for Penny Rose and Riley Blake that are inspired by her love of antique quilts and the fabrics within them.

Renee Nanneman
5 sous-catégories
"Design is all about Concept" ... Renee Nanneman's motto since starting her own publishing business, The Need'l Love Company, Inc., in 1984 when she was 26 years old.
Be it designing patterns for cross stitch, rug hooking or quilting, Renee creates and publishes fresh and innovative design to inspire others to appreciate and enjoy the needlearts.
For Renee, fabric designing is just another creative vision. Inspired by the vintage fabric on an old covered box, Renee's first fabric collection, "Daylily Days" was created. Most of her fabric designs come to life from old quilts, fabrics and needlework she has found while scouring antique shops and flea markets. She loves to give everything she touches a "vintage" feel. Since 2006, Renee has created more than 30 print, woven & wool fabric groups for Andover Fabrics. Andover released Renee's first grouping of "basics" -- small prints in colors to coordinate with her fabric collections -- and named them "Itsy Bits".
Many quilters and needlewomen recognize Renee from her publications of the Need'l Love "Threads" series of books which feature at least one quilt, along with wool applique, stitchery, rug hooking and more. Beautiful styling and photography make these project books a collector's item. The first Woodland Threads book came out in 1995, and the latest release in 2012 was Garden Gate Threads, #26 in the series. Along with creating beautiful fabric collections, Renee has published 9 books featuring the fabrics from her collections. Her own unique color palette is recognizable in each design.
Always a trend-setter, Renee loves to fill her life with things she loves -- "Bella Bliss" -- and wants to share them with others through her designs!

There is an inherently organic, natural quality as well as a softly refined feel to Shell's designs. Her livable collections are both comfortable and contemporary at the same time.
Shell's work is a direct reflection of what catches her eye and she strives to honor the lines, layers, textures and colors of all that inspires her.
